A Tribute

Mary Bird, the mom in the story of Tiffany's wedding, was tragically killed in a car accident Monday March 4, 2003.

Mary at the Office

Mary has been been my friend for over 15 years and worked in our office since early 1995 until a little over a year ago. Many of your will remember her for her warm "motherly" deameanor over the phone. She as our very best bra fitter ever and used to joke that she would be a little old lady STILL helping moms fit nursing bras over the phone! She was especially loved by our customers because she was able to reach out and love them so much... even via the telephone.

When she first started at our office, she drove a school bus in the morning, came to work for a while, then hurried and drove her afternoon school bus route. She helped me edit patterns, sew mother covers, do design work. 7 years ago, when my daughter Lauren was born premature... Mary came to the hospital and sat with me. She always brought a "project" to keep her hand busy because she was just that type of person. I remember her crocheting edges on receiving blankets and helping in any way possible. When we were in slow times at the office, she set up a quilt in the back room so she could quilt in between phone calls. She was a tall, big, loving person who made everyone feel so taken care of and we all loved her. Mary finally got "the" job of her dreams as the school bus supervisor for the entire school district and she left our office, but not our hearts.

Mary and daughter Tiffany

Mary stayed involved with this work by helping test patterns and contributing her love and enthusiasm to this work. She sewed like no one I ever knew. When she made the dresses for Tiffany's wedding... she ade them all in one night. She made an extra one for herself and then an extra one in case on of the bridesmaids needed a different size! When she told me how fast she had sewn them, I could hardly believe it.

She was gifted in so many ways. Her greatest love was for her children and she will always be remembered for that. She was driving home in bad weather when her car slid out of control and rolled over an embankment. She left behind her mother, Norma, pictured in the wedding story, her husband Kerry and 5 children, 2 of which are still at home.
